Patient Information

Information for Day Surgery Patients

The Day of Your Procedure

Report to Central Registration in the Main Lobby of the hospital, First Floor Rock Pavilion. You may enter the hospital at the main entrance, located at the corner of Broad and Ontario Streets. From Central Registration, you will be sent to the appropriate area for your procedure. The staff in Central Registration will process patients in accordance with the time their procedure is scheduled. Please understand that you may not necessarily be processed in the order you arrive in Central Registration so that all hospital  departments can do their best to stay on schedule.  GI patients must report to Outpatient Registration on day of procedure.        

Arrival

  • Bring your medical insurance cards and forms with you.
  • Arrive on time. If you are late, there is a possibility your procedure may be canceled.
  • You will be given a hospital gown and slippers to wear.
  • Do not eat or drink anything (NO gum, candy, or water). If you were instructed by your doctor, take your medication. (Please do so with as little water as possible).
  • If necessary, bring medication with you.
  • Dress in loose comfortable clothing.
  • Bring your eyeglasses, hearing aide and dentures with you in the appropriate containers to store them.

Discharge After Your Procedure

  • If you received any sedation or anesthesia, you will not be permitted to leave unless you have a responsible adult to accompany you.
  • You will be assessed by medical personnel to determine your time of discharge as each person's recovery time varies.
  • You will be given written discharge instructions about diet, activity, medication and follow-up care.
  • An escort will transport you via wheelchair to your ride.
  • You should not operate machinery, drink alcoholic beverages, drive a vehicle or make any legal decisions for 24-48 hours following your discharge.
  • A day or two after your procedure, a nurse from Pre-Admission Testing will call you to check on your progress and recovery.
