Information For Inpatients

Mail & Telephones

Mail:
Mail is delivered to your room daily. All letters, packages, and flowers addressed to you will be delivered directly to your room. Be sure family and friends include your room number on all correspondence. All mail will be forwarded to your home address after you have been discharged. To send mail out, please give the stamped material to your nurse before 9:00am.

Telephones:
A private phone is located beside your bed. You may receive and make calls directly from your hospital telephone. To ensure that you get the proper rest, we ask that you do not use the telephone before 8:00am or after 10:00pm. Incoming calls to your room will not be connected between 10:00pm and 8:00am.

Hearing or Sensory Impaired Services
Temple University Hospital is committed to offering access to health care services by providing reasonable and appropriate mechanisms for communicating with hearing or sensory impaired patients at no additional cost.

A hearing or sensory impaired patient will be asked to choose the communication option most effective for his or her needs. Temple University Hospital will make every effort to accommodate the request. If the request is not possible, the patient will be asked to choose another option is available while efforts continue to secure the requested service. The patient must specifically request whether family members or friends may be used to communicate. Communication options include:

  • Paper and pencil
  • Basic sign language and finger spelling (available through volunteer staff with these skills)
  • Certified Sign Language Interpreters to accurately and fluently express and receive in sign language (services are provided by outside contractors, and may not be immediately available)
  • Foreign language volunteers
  • AT&T Relay Line can be accessed by a patient via a TDD device 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling 1-800-654-5984
  • TDD teletypewriters can be accessed by calling the Hospital switchboard (215-707- 2000), which will serve as the access line from 6:00am - 11:00pm.   Monday through Friday. All other times, the AT&T Relay Line must be used
  • Picture flash cards
  • Family member or companion
