Cardiology
Sophisticated diagnostic techniques, the latest and best in cardiac therapy, and a close working relationship between Cardiology and Cardiothoracic
Surgery provide for comprehensive, personalized care of cardiac patients in the inpatient and office settings.
The Cardiology Section offers a full spectrum of clinical services, including catheterization, balloon angioplasty, balloon valvuloplasty, coronary
atherectomy and intracoronary stents; peripheral vascular intervention; electrophysiologic testing; implantation of the automatic defibrillator; catheter ablation of arrhythmias; and a nationally recognized
cardiomyopathy and cardiac transplantation program.
Diagnostic services include: 2-D and transesophageal echocardiography; spectral and color flow Doppler studies; stress echocardiography;
computer-assisted treadmill exercise testing with SPECT tomographic thallium imaging; dipyridamole and adenosine stress testing; and radionuclide ventriculography.
The Heart Failure & Transplant Center is staffed by physicians and nurses specializing in the care of patients with congestive heart failure and experienced in managing the post-transplant patient. Patients may be referred for outpatient or inpatient evaluation. Options for treatment include investigational drug therapy, home inotropic therapy, and evaluation for cardiac transplantation.
